教有淺深。雖不能全同。而亦有可同之語也。孔子云。中人以上可以語上也。中人以下不可以語上也（語去聲。論語語告也。言教人者當隨其高下而教。則其言易入而無躐等之蔽也）。

'The teachings have the shallow and the deep. Although they cannot be entirely identical, there are also words that can be seen as agreeing. Confucius said: "To those of medium capacity and above, one may speak of higher things; to those below medium capacity, one may not speak of higher things." (Yu is pronounced in the falling tone. In the Analects, yu means to tell. This means that when teaching people, one should instruct according to their higher or lower level; then one's words will easily enter, without the fault of skipping over grades.)
