佛云。大根大莖大枝大葉。中根中莖中枝中葉。小根小莖小枝小葉（法華經云上中下三品者即三乘也）。

'The Buddha said: "Great roots, great stems, great branches, great leaves; middling roots, middling stems, middling branches, middling leaves; small roots, small stems, small branches, small leaves." (The Lotus Sūtra says that the three grades—upper, middling, and lower—refer to the three vehicles.)
