'"Only by not being proud will no one under heaven contend with you for ability." The Supreme Lord said: "He who looks only at himself is not clear-sighted. He who asserts himself is not prominent. He who boasts of himself has no merit. He who is proud of himself does not endure." (He who is attached only to his own views will certainly not be clear about the Way. He who declares himself to be right will certainly not have his Way and virtue made prominent. He who boasts of himself will certainly have no merit. He who is proud of his abilities will certainly not endure for long.)
