朕才謝珪璋。言慚博達。至於內典。尤所未閑。昨製序文。深為鄙拙。唯恐穢翰墨於金簡。標瓦礫於珠林。忽得來書。謬承褒讚。脩躬省慮。彌益厚顏。善不足稱。空勞致謝。

Our talent falls short of fine jade, and Our words are ashamed before the broadly learned. As for the inner scriptures, We are especially unpractised. The preface We composed yesterday is profoundly crude and clumsy. We only feared soiling the golden tablets with Our brush and ink, or displaying rubble in a grove of jewels. Suddenly We received your letter, erroneously conferring praise and commendation. Examining Our person and reflecting on Our thoughts, Our thick skin is made all the redder. There is nothing good worthy of praise; your sending thanks was a wasted effort.
