1.40

沙門玄奘言。前件經律等。並是五乘軌轍。三藏奧旨。文義既弘。學徒欽尚。玄奘往於西域。遍訪遺文。所獲眾經部餘六百。前件經律尚未得來。至於大法流通。有所未悉。今並在于闐國。宛然具有。伏惟陛下。則天御㝢。光啟大猷。膺錄受圖。弘揚正法。殊方異類重譯來朝。于闐蕃王今歸聖化。伏願降勅遣進。翻譯有期。所益既弘。輒敢聞奏。輕觸𠃵嚴。伏增悚慄。謹言。

Śramaṇa Xuanzang says: The aforementioned sūtras and vinayas are all the tracks of the five vehicles and the profound purport of the Tripiṭaka. Their texts and doctrines are vast, and students hold them in high esteem. When Xuanzang journeyed to the Western Regions, I searched everywhere for surviving texts and obtained over six hundred fascicles of various scriptures. The aforementioned sūtras and vinayas have not yet been brought here; hence the circulation of the Great Dharma remains incomplete in these regards. Now they all exist complete and intact in the Kingdom of Khotan. I humbly reflect that Your Majesty, modeling Heaven, governs the world and gloriously initiates the grand plan, receiving the registers and charts, and promoting the True Dharma. Peoples of disparate lands and varied kinds come to court through multiple interpreters; the barbarian king of Khotan has now surrendered to Your sacred transformation. I humbly request that an edict be issued to dispatch [an envoy] to fetch them, so that their translation may be scheduled. Since the benefit would be vast, I venture to submit this memorial. In lightly offending Your celestial majesty, I am overcome with increasing fear and trembling. Respectfully stated.
