The śramaṇa Xuanzang speaks: You have deigned to bestow a patchwork robe and sundry items. Holding them, I am overcome with astonishment and shame, knowing no parallel. Fine garments woven with gold thread have been handed down from past worthies; priceless jewel robes are heard of in sacred scriptures. Yet never has there been anything of such consummate divine craft, witnessed before one’s eyes and held in hand, as today's bestowal! Observing its colors, pure and subtle, Jingjun could not surpass its craftsmanship; the tailoring is fine and dense, such that even varied openwork cannot discern its seams. One immediately feels mist and rosy clouds entering the room, and an orchid garden gracing one's person. Looking down at what is bestowed upon me, my honor and value suddenly increase. Formerly, Daoan’s speech was prized in the Qin era, yet he never met with such grace; Zhidun was praised for his etiquette in the Jin dynasty, yet rarely heard of such favor. Only Xuanzang, mediocre and slight, alone surreptitiously receives this vast bounty. Looking upon this favor and examining myself, my trembling and perspiration deepen all the more. I humbly pray that the Emperor and Empress may be enriched with abundant descendants and enjoy boundless blessings and fortune; that You may long face the jade mirror and eternally steer the precious diagram, nourishing all living beings, endless as Heaven. Unable to bear the utmost shame and gratitude, I respectfully present this memorial to express my thanks and inform You. The gift is weighty, but my words are meager, unable to convey everything fully. Respectfully stated.
