The śramaṇa Xuanzang states: I have heard that when the supreme Dao unfolds, it enlightens devas and humans for many a cycle; when such resonance runs deep, a mysterious sage is born already gifted with early wisdom. I humbly reflect that the Emperor and Empress mirror the three kinds of emptiness in their minds, and their transformation accords with the nine realms of existence. Thus You can hang the royal tassels in the two truths and rein the horses of wheat in the One Vehicle. When the orchid hall first rejoiced, You produced the aspiration for koṭis of blessings; when the jade bough was conceived, it manifested the auspicious sign of scaling the city wall. You caused the spiritual descent of the Ten Epithets, expanding this embrace, and a hundred spirits assisted, reverently purifying this palace precinct. Therefore, calamities have been thoroughly cleared away, and the prince is born in peaceful harmony; seven lotus flowers stand solemn to support his steps, and nine dragons bow down to bathe his body. The profound gate awaits his traces; the Bodhi tree offers its shade. Even if of old someone trod on the emperor's footprint to reveal an omen or touched heaven to show a marvel, how could that suffice to compare with this grand bounty, or equal this glorious plan? The entire populace sings songs, rejoicing that the imperial steps receive blessings; the forest of black robes is filled with vigor, delighting that the bay horse has come to roam. I humbly pray that You will not alter Your former grace, and specially command him to wear the Dharma robes, not confined to ordinary affection, but constructing excellent causes from afar. Moreover, the nobility of an imperial prince encompasses both worldly retirement and public action, while the position of the Dharma King is exalted all the more. Furthermore, its merit is boundless and its bridge of salvation reaches far. If the sacred favor is without error and the great vow remains unshifted, I privately think that exhausting the wealth of the four seas would not suffice to match this practice of giving; pouring out the karma of the ten stages cannot serve to illustrate this foundation of blessings. I pray that the Emperor and Empress may gather the splendor of a hundred blessings, shining equally with the polar star, with ten thousand springs marking Your longevity, as enduring as the Southern Mountain. May You exhaust all joys throughout prolonged years, and realize sarva-jñatā in kalpas far away. May the Crown Prince flourish in harmony, pacifying and inheriting the imperial plan; may the favored princes be properly established, aiding and illuminating the royal house; may the wrapped, illustrious offspring see their auspicious blessings multiply daily, displaying exceptional talent on the main branch and continuing the fragrant dust upon the grass seat. Xuanzang was accidentally favored to meet this great fortune, his shadow confined within the forbidden gates. My honor does not stem from rising in virtue; my favor is due to accumulated grace. Fortunate to encounter the beginning of this national celebration, the founding of pure karma, my leaping joy would feel no regret even if ground to powder. Unable to bear the utmost of joy and congratulation, I respectfully present this memorial to inform You. Rashly touching Your majestic presence, I prostrate myself with trembling and dread. Respectfully stated.
