The Tripitaka Śramaṇa Amoghavajra states: Amoghavajra is lacking in the cultivation of former [masters] in the Way and falls short of past sages in learning. Having undeservedly received the imperial decree to translate the true scripture, I felt as if treading on spring ice or facing a deep ravine. I humbly reflect that Your Majesty has parted the clouds to reveal the sun of wisdom and spread the shade of the cloud of compassion; Your sagely thoughts fly like the wind, and Your dragon-like writings gleam like polished jade. Personally composing the preface, You illuminate the trichiliocosm, showering the rain of Dharma from the ninefold heavens and raising banners of victory at the Hundred Seats. The deportment and imperial retinue seemed just as when Śākyamuni descended Vulture Peak; the gathered scholar-officials and commoners thronged like King Pasenadi visiting Rājagṛha. Auspicious clouds presented good omens, and felicitous vapors drifted in the sky. These sufficiently demonstrate the peace under heaven and naturally accord with boundless blessings. Unable to bear my extreme gratitude, I respectfully present this memorial to express congratulations for imperial notice. The Śramaṇa Amoghavajra, with sincere trepidation and joy, respectfully speaks.
