The śramaṇa Amoghavajra speaks: Early on, I served my late great master and undeservedly received his instructions. Ashamed to lack the wisdom of those who ascend to the hall, I was yet mistakenly granted the privilege of entering his chamber. The maṇḍala abhiṣeka altar is the source of the myriad practices and the sovereign of secret realization; when ascending the path of awakening, what does not proceed from this? When first transmitted by my late master, it opened the eyes and ears of this land. But the lamp of wisdom ceased its shining, and the sun and moon have grown ever more distant. Your Majesty, pondering the continuation of that radiant brilliance and not discarding this flawed and humble servant, issued an edict to open abhiṣeka and establish an arena. Barely resembling the preserved sacrificial sheep, how could I be an heir worthy of refuge? Yet imperial compassion bestowed its favour, and moistening grace repeatedly soaked me: an edict sealed with clay was granted to ordain five monks, their clouds [of hair] falling as their locks were shorn; heavenly meals were bestowed for a thousand persons, their fragrance borne upon the breeze. Furthermore, Your Majesty personally inscribed the plaque for the pagoda, suspended beside the rivers Yi and Luo. Beneath Dragon Gate, rising peaks gather anew; amidst the lunar disk, soaring wild geese continually assemble. Unable to bear my extreme sense of gratitude, trepidation, and trembling, I have respectfully entrusted Commissioner Li Xiancheng to present this memorial expressing thanks for Your Majesty's notice. The śramaṇa Amoghavajra, with sincere joy and delight, respectfully speaks.
