The Śramaṇa Huiguo states: I prostrately received the imperial decree proclaimed by Palace Envoy Li Xiancheng on the ninth day of this month, bestowing upon this humble monk twenty bolts of brocades and colored silks in total. Holding them and facing them, my joy and awe are as if a mountain were pressing down on me. I, Huiguo, had the good fortune to meet this illustrious age and have undeservedly received Your Sagely grace. From my years of playing in the sand, I served my late master; for over twenty years, I held his towel and staff. In the esoteric lineage of Yoga and the profound, wondrous essentials of Samantabhadra, I was specially favored with his instruction and uniquely received his intentions; he strictly commanded me to practice day and night for the sake of the state. Therefore, this humble monk has broken his gall and exhausted his liver, forgetting his body and sacrificing his life, without a moment's cessation, praying and making vows with earnest sincerity in the hope of repaying the kindness of Your rain and dew, and aspiring to requite the creation of Your extraordinary favor. Unable to bear my extreme exultation, I respectfully append this memorial to convey my thanks and submit it for your hearing. The Śramaṇa Huiguo, with true joy and true fear, respectfully speaks.
