14.35

目連夜行。弊魔化作澈影入目連腹中。目連自念。吾腹何故雷鳴如飢負擔。入定觀見。即謂之曰。弊魔且出。莫嬈如來及其弟子。魔即恐懼所化澈影出住身前（出弊魔試目連經）。

Maudgalyāyana was walking at night. The wicked Māra transformed into a clear shadow and entered Maudgalyāyana's belly. Maudgalyāyana thought to himself: 'Why is my belly rumbling like thunder, as if I were hungry and carrying a heavy burden?' Entering absorption, he contemplated and saw him. He immediately said to him: 'Wicked Māra, come out at once! Do not harass the Tathāgata and his disciples.' Māra was terrified; the clear shadow he had transformed into emerged and stood before his body (from the *Bimo shi Mulian jing* [Sūtra on the Wicked Māra Testing Maudgalyāyana]).
