天子言。我不聞此。釋提桓因言。一切恩愛皆有別離。天子言。云何而不懷憂。今此天宮種種五欲皆當別離。命終即生羅閱城猪胎。所食者是糞。方為屠膾所殺。我今見此是以懷愁耳。時釋提桓因語天子言。汝今自歸命佛法僧。所以然者。佛說偈言。

The devaputra said: ‘I have not heard this.’ Śakra Devānām Indra said: ‘All love and attachment entail separation.’ The devaputra said: ‘How could I not harbor grief? From the diverse five desires of this heavenly palace, I must now be separated. When my life ends, I shall be born in the womb of a pig in Rājagṛha, where what I eat will be dung, and I will subsequently be killed by butchers. Because I now foresee this, I harbor grief.’ Then Śakra Devānām Indra said to the devaputra: ‘Now you should take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Saṃgha. Why so? The Buddha spoke a gāthā:
