阿育王夫人。名鉢摩婆底（梁言芙蓉花）生一男兒。形色端正眼為第一。人見無不愛樂。內人白王。夫人生兒。王大歡喜。故名此兒為達磨（梁言法）婆陀那（梁言增長）即抱此兒示阿育王。時王見已歡喜說偈。
King Aśoka's queen, named Padmāvatī (rendered in Liang as "Lotus Blossom"), gave birth to a male child whose appearance was upright and handsome, and whose eyes were peerless. No one who saw him failed to love and delight in him. The palace attendants informed the king, "The queen has borne a son." The king was overjoyed, and therefore named this boy Dharmavardhana (rendered in Liang as "Increase of Dharma"). They then carried the boy and showed him to King Aśoka. Upon seeing him, the king rejoiced and spoke a verse:
