39.25

昔有仙人。名曰螺文精進純備。而處居家不有梵行者。或作是說。如彼螺文有清淨行。然在居家不善清淨。螺文造書。風雨不能沮壞。處俗修梵行。如阿那含。在家眷屬圍繞。此非清淨行耶。神足境界不可思議（出婆須蜜經第六卷）。

Formerly there was a ṛṣi named Śaṅkhalipi whose vigor was pure and complete, yet he lived as a householder without leading a celibate life. Some explain it thus: Like that Śaṅkhalipi who had pure conduct yet dwelt as a householder without complete purity, Śaṅkhalipi composed writings that neither wind nor rain could ruin. Dwelling among worldly folk while practicing the celibate life—just like an anāgāmin who is at home surrounded by family—is this not also pure conduct? The realm of spiritual powers is inconceivable.
