46.17

緊那羅（亦云甄那羅也）住須彌山北。過小鐵圍有大黑山。亦在十寶山間。無有佛法日月星辰。由昔布施之力。今居七寶宮殿。壽命甚長。此王本在人中。有大長者興造佛塔。此緊那羅施一剎柱成辦寺廟。復以淨食施於工匠。壽盡作胸臆神。在兩山間。先在人中為大長者居財無量。有一沙門乞食。婦擎飯施之。乃大瞋怒云。此何乞人瞻視我婦。當令此人手脚斷壞。壽終以後受此醜形。八十四劫常無手足。諸天宴會皆悉與乾闥婆分番上下。天欲奏樂。而其腋下污流。便自上天也。有一緊那羅。名頭婁磨琴。歌諸法實相以讚世尊。時須彌山及諸林樹皆悉振動。迦葉在座不能自安。五百仙人心生狂醉。失其神足一時墮地（出菩薩胎經及大智論）。

The kinnaras (also called zhennaluo) reside to the north of Mount Sumeru. Beyond the Small Iron Enclosure is a Great Black Mountain, also situated among ten jewelled mountains. There is no Buddhadharma, nor sun, moon, or stars. By the power of past generosity, they now dwell in palaces of the seven jewels and enjoy exceedingly long lifespans. This king was originally among humans. When a great elder was erecting a Buddha stupa, this kinnara donated a spire pole to complete the monastery and also provided pure food to the artisans. When his life ended, he became a chest-creature spirit between two mountains. Earlier, when he was a human, he was a great elder possessing boundless wealth. A śramaṇa came begging for food, and his wife carried the rice to offer it to him. He became furious and said, "What beggar is this, ogling my wife? I shall cause this person's hands and feet to be broken!" After his life ended, he received this ugly form, being constantly without hands or feet for eighty-four kalpas. When the devas hold banquets, they take turns going up and down with the gandharvas. When the devas wish to play music, sweat and filth flow from beneath his armpits, and he then ascends to heaven on his own. There was a kinnara named Druma who played the lute and sang of the true reality of all dharmas to praise the Bhagavat. At that time, Mount Sumeru and the forests and trees all trembled, Kāśyapa could not sit still upon his seat, and five hundred sages became wildly intoxicated in mind, lost their spiritual penetrations, and fell to the ground all at once (from the Bodhisattva-garbhāvakrānti Sūtra and the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra).
