47.6

過去世有一師子王。在深山窟。常作是念。我是一切獸中之王。力能視護一切諸獸。山中有二獼猴。共生二子。時二獼猴問師子王。王若能護一切獸者。我今二子以相委付。我欲餘行求覓飲食。時師子王即便許之。獼猴留寄二子即捨而行。是時山中有一鷲鳥王。厥名利見。師子王睡。即便摶取獼猴二子處嶮而住。師子王即寤。即白鷲言。

In a past age, there was a lion king dwelling in a cave in the deep mountains. He constantly thought: 'I am the king among all beasts; by my strength I can protect and shelter all beasts.' In the mountain were two monkeys who together had two infants. The two monkeys then asked the lion king: 'If the Great King can protect all beasts, we now entrust our two infants to you. We wish to go elsewhere in search of food.' The lion king then assented to it. The monkeys left their two infants in his care and departed. At that time, there was in the mountain a vulture king named Good Sight. While the lion king slept, it swooped down, seized the two monkey infants, and perched on a precipice.
