Twenty-first is called Hungry Ghost: their body is forty leagues tall, their belly like a hamper holding ten thousand bushels, their neck ten leagues long, constantly suffering from hunger and thirst, their breath always foul; seeing food, it turns into charcoal; drink turns into pus and blood; this is because they ate the meal of a fast without observing the fast; in later lives, for eight hundred births they constantly become rākṣasas. Twenty-second is called Hard Charcoal: with a thieving mind they took others' goods, now their hands hold hard charcoal; later born poor and lowly, serving others. Twenty-third is called Boiling Caldron: in life, with an evil mind they poured hot water on ground insects. Twenty-fourth is called Iron Bed: committing adultery with others' wives and violating precept-holding women; men embrace copper pillars, women lie on iron beds. Twenty-fifth is called Iron Pellets: because they roasted and boiled the eggs of chickens and ducks; in later lives they constantly suffer from delirium and confusion. Twenty-sixth is called Hell of Sitting in Pride: in life, full of pride, they ate the gifts of the faithful, conceited of having virtue and giving rise to an arrogant mind. Twenty-seventh is called Black Ears: hell demons dismember them limb by limb with knives; because they sexually molested a monk; later they are born among lowly women, and for five hundred years become eunuchs. Twenty-eighth is called Cold Ice Hell: in life, they threw sentient beings into freezing places; later born poor and lowly, constantly without clothing. Twenty-ninth is called Stone Cave: filled with smoke and fire; with an evil mind they smoked sentient beings to death. Thirtieth is called Seizure: hell demons seize them; because with an angry mind they pulverized and killed lice and nits.
