There was a devī who sat upon a lotus flower one hundred yojanas in extent. This flower was uniquely wonderful, excelling all others; whatever requisites of life she desired issued from the flower according to her thought, accompanying her as she moved or halted. Maudgalyāyana asked: ‘What wholesome deeds did you perform to receive such a retribution?’ The devī answered: ‘After Kāśyapa Buddha entered nirvāṇa, he left behind his whole-body śarīra. Together with the disciples of the Buddha, I erected a seven-jeweled stūpa forty li in height and breadth. At that time, being a woman, I came out and saw the image inside the jeweled stūpa; faith and reverence arose, and recalling the Buddha's merit, I took off the flower on my head and offered it to the image.’ (Drawn from the Zazang jing)
