Having reflected thus, the king set out immediately and arrived at King Kalmāṣapāda's place. Seeing him from afar, Kalmāṣapāda was delighted and said: "You are a person of truthful speech who does not break his pledged word. Yet all people cherish their lives; having escaped from death, you still return to fulfill your promise—you are a great man!" At that time King Śrutasoma praised truthful speech: "Truthful speech makes one human; without truthful speech one is not human." In this way he praised truthful speech in various ways and rebuked false speech. Hearing this, Kalmāṣapāda developed pure faith and said to King Śrutasoma: "I now release you, and the ninety-nine kings shall also return to their own countries." This was the fulfillment of the perfection of ethical discipline (śīlapāramitā). (Extracted from the fourth fascicle of the Treatise on the Great Perfection of Wisdom)
