26.22

At that time, King Puming and his retinue attained the emptiness of the Dharma eye. The king personally realised the samādhi of space-equality, and upon hearing the Dharma, awakened and understood. Returning to the country of Tianluo to the place of King Kalmāṣapāda, he addressed the 999 kings, saying: “The time to meet death has arrived; each person should recite the Prajñāpāramitā verses of the benevolent kings from the seven past Buddhas.” Kalmāṣapāda asked: “What Dharma do you recite?” King Puming then answered the king with the verses above. Hearing this Dharma, the king attained the samādhi of emptiness. The 999 kings, having also heard the Dharma, all realised the samādhi of the three gates of liberation. Then King Kalmāṣapāda rejoiced exceedingly, and addressed the kings, saying: “I was misled by an erroneous non-Buddhist master; it was not your fault. Return, all of you, to your own countries, and let each invite Dharma masters to expound the collection of names, phrases, and syllables of the Prajñāpāramitā.” Then King Kalmāṣapāda entrusted the kingdom to his younger brother, left home to pursue the path, and realised the forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas, as expounded in the Stage of the Ten Kings (from the Benevolent Kings Prajñā Sūtra).
