At the peak of the Snowy Mountains there is a king of medicinal trees named Neither-Born-from-Roots-nor-Not-Born-from-Roots. It is six million eight hundred thousand yojanas in breadth and extent, and below it reaches down to the limit of the adamantine realm. When this tree produces roots, all the roots of the trees of Jambudvīpa are born. When it produces trunks, and when it produces branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits, all the trees of Jambudvīpa likewise produce branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits. The roots of this tree can produce trunks, and the trunks can produce roots; therefore it is named Neither-Born-from-Roots-nor-Not-Born-from-Roots. It can grow in all places, only excepting the deep pits of the hells and within the water wheel, where it cannot grow (from the thirtieth fascicle of the *Avataṃsaka-sūtra*).
