There is a tree named Xiangdou; its branches interlace and join together above like a trellis. The people lodge and rest on it, men and women in separate places. The people's teeth and hair are dark violet-blue, [the hair] eight inches long. Their facial complexions are identical, and their heights are equal; all have a lifespan of a thousand years. When they die, they are reborn in the various heavens of the kāmadhātu; when their heavenly lifespans end, they are reborn into great and noble families in Jambudvīpa. When they evacuate their bowels and bladders, the earth cracks open to receive it, and once received, it closes up again. When they die, they are adorned with fine garments without any weeping; they are placed at the crossroads, and ucca birds lift them up and carry them beyond the northern continent.
