Make many jeweled flowers, / String dangling ornaments of silk; / Extensively accumulate the fragrance of virtue, / And what you are born into will become ever more splendid. / Rare herbs and fragrant blossoms / Do not send their fragrance against the wind; / Approaching the Way and hearing the teaching, / The fragrance of a virtuous person spreads everywhere. / Though those are called genuine, / They cannot compare to the fragrance of the precepts. (From the second fascicle of the Dharmapada Avadāna Sūtra)
