A great flood suddenly inundated [the land]. Living beings relied on a hill to escape it, but it was on the verge of being submerged as well. Suddenly a phoenix arrived; a wise person clung to its wings and was carried up to high ground, escaping the flood disaster. Those who remained behind suddenly saw a cormorant and entrusted themselves to its feathers. But the cormorant plunged straight into the deep water, and all drowned at once.
