Once there was a woman who was possessed by a hungry ghost. Using spells, [someone] questioned the ghost, saying, "Why do you torment this other woman?" The ghost answered, "This woman is my enemy. Over five hundred lifetimes, she always killed me. I, too, over five hundred lifetimes, severed her life-faculty. If she can abandon her mind of old enmity, I can abandon it as well." At that time, the woman spoke these words: "I have now abandoned my mind of enmity." The ghost observed that although the woman's mouth said she abandoned it, her mind did not let it go; and he immediately severed her life.
