At that time, the Tathāgata was expounding the Lotus Sūtra. Other bodhisattvas requested to protect and uphold it. The Buddha then stopped them, saying that the bodhisattvas of the lower realm were immeasurable and boundless. Through the splitting of the earth, they welled forth simultaneously, abode in the air, proceeded to the seven-jeweled stupa of Prabhūtaratna Tathāgata and Śākyamuni Buddha, and bowed their heads in homage to the two World-Honoured Ones. (Drawn from the fifth fascicle of the Lotus Sūtra)
