太子既出城外師子吼言。要誓證彼真如菩提。然後還來入此教化。而彼處所有一最大尼拘陀樹神。以偈語太子言。
Having gone outside the city, the prince roared like a lion: "I vow to realise that tathatā and bodhi, and only then return to enter this city to teach and transform!" And at that place there was a great nyagrodha tree-spirit, who addressed the prince in verse, saying:
