11.42

如普曜經云。菩薩於樹下坐。明星出時豁然大悟。年至十九出家。三十成道。又依般若問論云。漚樓頻螺林中成佛。又自誓三昧經云。初成佛時。十方諸佛各送袈裟。佛合成一服。此衣今在梵天供養。又空行三昧經云。彌陀佛先我四劫得道。維衛佛先我三劫得道。有佛名能儒。三十滅度。迦葉佛十八得道。我年二十七得道。今從多為定。十九出家三十成道。此文應允。亦與餘義相應。善見律云。月生三日得一切智。泥洹經云。佛初出得道。並四月八日。今以為正。

As the Puyao jing says: The Bodhisattva sat beneath the tree; when the morning star appeared, he had a sudden great awakening. At the age of nineteen he went forth from the household life, and at thirty he attained the Way. Also, according to the Bore wen lun, he became a Buddha in the Uruvilvā forest. Also, the Zishi sanmei jing says: When he first became a Buddha, the Buddhas of the ten directions each sent a kāṣāya; the Buddha combined them into a single garment. This robe is now worshipped in the Brahmā heaven. Also, the Kongxing sanmei jing says: 'Amitābha Buddha attained the Way four kalpas before me; Vipaśyin Buddha attained the Way three kalpas before me; there was a Buddha named Nengru who entered extinction at thirty; Kāśyapa Buddha attained the Way at eighteen; I attained the Way at the age of twenty-seven.' Now, taking the majority view as definitive: going forth at nineteen and attaining the Way at thirty—this text is appropriate and also accords with other explanations. The Shanjiand lü says: 'On the third day of the waxing moon he attained omniscience.' The Nihuan jing says: 'The Buddha first went forth and attained the Way both on the eighth day of the fourth month.' This is now taken as correct.
