12.51

阿難言。爾時我思惟。若諸女人見佛陰藏相者。便自羞恥女人形欲得男子身。修行佛於種種德根。以是故我示女人。不為無恥而故破戒。

Ānanda said: "At that time I reflected: 'If women see the mark of the Buddha's concealed organ, they will feel ashamed of their female form and desire a male body, cultivating the Buddha's various roots of virtue.' It was on this account that I showed it to the women, not out of shamelessness or a deliberate breach of the precepts."
