Master Lang's Temple in Jinyu Valley of Mount Tai in the Western Jin: In the past, the Central Plains met with disorder, and governance was lost in the Yongjia era. There was a śramaṇa named Shi Senglang; the mountain where he dwelt was perpetually shaded by clouds. The common people marveled at this auspicious sign, and his imposing renown reverberated far and wide, known throughout the world. At that time, there was no sole ruler, and local warlords vied for territory; yet the ancestral shrines and courts of the seven kingdoms respected and revered him to accumulate blessings. The various states competed to send gilt-bronze statues and present precious treasures. Lang served them reverently with utmost propriety, constantly reporting auspicious portents. Now he lives in a hall whose doors and windows are constantly open; birds and sparrows do not approach, and assorted impurities do not adhere to it. Those near and far marvel at it in praise. It is now nearly three hundred and fifty years since the founding of that temple.
