During the Jianyuan reign of the Qi dynasty, the Vaiśālī Vihāra in Panyu possessed an old stone statue from the kingdom of Funan; no one knew its origin. Its appearance was quite extraordinary, and only seventy or eighty people together could lift and move it. This monastery had a thatched roof. Fire broke out and spread to the building downwind; the smoke and flames had already reached it. More than ten nuns looked at each other with no plan. Among them was one whose determination did not waver; she tried lifting it together with three or four others. It rose up lightly, without even the weight of thirty catties. Once the statue had been moved, the building was consumed by fire. Whenever divine light appeared, or when military bandits troubled the prefecture and its commanderies, it would break out in a sweat like tears all over its body. In Lingnan, this was taken as a regular sign. Later, Liu Quan, the inspector of Guangzhou, submitted a memorial to send it to the capital; it should now be in a monastery in the old Jiangzhou.
