15.17

述曰。若據實報淨土。要修出世無漏正因。與理行相成方得往生。若是下品之人本無正業。隨起一行。或臨終日十念雖成。唯生化土未能見報。具述觀法。備在大小乘禪門十卷中說。

The Commentary states: If relying on the true Pure Land of Retribution, one must cultivate the supramundane, outflow-free correct cause, harmonizing principle and practice, before one can attain rebirth. If it is a person of the lower ranks who originally lacks correct karma, then merely cultivating a single practice, or even if they accomplish the ten thoughts on the day of death, they will only be born in a transformation land and cannot yet see the retribution [body and land]. The contemplation methods are fully stated; they are comprehensively explained in the ten fascicles of the Meditation Portals of the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna.
