The monk Shi Daotai of the Jin was a monk at Hengtang Vihāra in Changshan. During the Yixi era of the Jin, he once dreamed of a person who told him: "Your lifespan will end at six times seven." When Tai reached the age of forty-two, he contracted a severe illness. Anticipating that he would not survive, he gave all his robes and bowl as generous offerings to create merit. He also devoted his sincere mind to calling upon and reciting Avalokiteśvara, day and night for four days, his diligence never wavering. A curtain hung before the couch on which he sat. Suddenly, under the curtain, he saw a person stepping across the threshold to enter; the soles of the feet were golden in color, and their radiance illuminated the room. Tai lifted the curtain to look quickly, but the figure suddenly vanished. Fear and joy surged together; he broke into a profuse sweat, immediately felt his body lightened, and his ailment was cured.
