17.50

受是偈已至病人家。雖復日日與肉三兩。以念偈故不以為痛。日日不廢足滿一月。其人病差瘡亦平復。我時見身具足平復。即發菩提願求來世成佛之時亦願號字釋迦牟尼。以是因緣今得成佛。

Having received this verse, I went to the sick man's house. Although day after day I gave him three ounces of flesh, because of recollecting the verse, I did not consider it painful. Day after day without missing, a full month was completed. The man's illness was cured, and his sores were healed as well. At that time, seeing my body completely restored, I then produced the aspiration for awakening, making the vow: 'When I achieve Buddhahood in a future age, may I also be called Śākyamuni.' Through these causes and conditions, I have now attained Buddhahood."
