20.40

佛言。東向拜者。謂子事父母當有五事。一者當念治生。二者早起勅令奴婢時作飯食。三者不益父母憂惱。四者當念父母恩重。五者父母疾病當恐懼求醫療之。父母視子亦有五事。一者當念令去惡就善。二者當教計算書疏。三者當教持經戒。四者當與娶婦。五者家中所有當給與之。

The Buddha said: "Worshipping toward the east means that there are five duties in a child serving their parents. First, they must attend to making a livelihood. Second, they must rise early and direct the servants to prepare meals on time. Third, they must not add to their parents' worries and grief. Fourth, they must be mindful of the weight of their parents' kindness. Fifth, when their parents fall ill, they must be anxious and seek medical treatment for them. Parents caring for their child also have five duties. First, they must think of leading them away from evil and toward good. Second, they must teach them reckoning and writing. Third, they must teach them to uphold the scriptures and precepts. Fourth, they must take a wife for them. Fifth, they must provide them with whatever is in the household."
