22.9

又賢愚經云。如百盲人有一明醫能治其目一時明見。又有百人罪應挑眼。一人有力能救其罪令不失目。此之二人福雖無量。猶不如聽人出。家及自出家其德廣大。

Furthermore, the Sūtra of the Wise and the Foolish says: "Suppose among a hundred blind persons, there were a skilled physician who could heal their eyes so that they could see clearly all at once; and suppose there were another hundred persons whose crimes warranted having their eyes gouged out, and one person of strength could pardon their crimes so they would not lose their sight. Although the blessings of these two persons are boundless, they still do not equal the vast virtue of permitting someone to leave the household or leaving the household oneself."
