23.18

盲龜浮木孔　時時猶可值
人一失命根　億劫復難是
海水深廣大　三百三十六
一鍼投海中　求之尚可得
一失人身命　難得過於是

"A blind turtle encountering the yoke-hole in floating wood / May still at times happen upon it; / But once a human loses the life-faculty, / To regain it across a hundred million kalpas is yet more difficult. / The seawater is deep, broad, and vast, / Three hundred and thirty-six [thousand yojanas]; / If a single needle were cast into the sea, / Seeking it, it could still be found; / But once the life of a human body is lost, / Obtaining it is more difficult than this."
