Monk Daozong of Shengguang Temple in the Western Capital under the Tang was surnamed Sun in lay life and was a native of Jimo in Laizhou. He was thoroughly versed in the Tripiṭaka and particularly refined in the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra. Whenever he lectured on the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra, the heavens would rain down various flowers, which swirled around the lecture hall and floated into the doors. Not falling to the ground, they returned away after a long while. The entire congregation marvelled in astonishment, rarely having seen such an auspicious sign. In the sixth year of the Wude reign, he died at his residence at the age of seventy-one.
