故僧祇律云。時海神便作是念。假使百年抒此海水。終不能減毛髮許。感其專精即還其寶。是時海神為婆羅門。而說偈言。
Therefore, the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: At that time, the ocean spirit thought: "Even if he scoops this ocean water for a hundred years, he can never reduce it by even the amount of a hair." Moved by his single-minded dedication, the spirit immediately returned the treasures to him. At that time, the ocean spirit turned into a brāhmaṇa and spoke a verse:
