The Soushen ji says: In the wastes of Kunlun, there is a mountain of blazing fire. Upon the mountain there are birds, beasts, grasses, and trees, all born within the blazing fire. Therefore, there is fire-cleansed cloth; if it is not the bark of grasses and trees of this mountain, then it is the fur of the beasts. Emperor Wen of Wei considered that the nature of fire is harsh and fierce, possessing no nurturing vapor, and inscribed this in his Dianlun, carving it outside the temple gates. At that time, an envoy from the Western Regions presented a kāṣāya of fire-cleansed cloth; thereupon this treatise was scraped away and erased.
