28.53

博物志曰。妊娠者不可食薑。令兒盈指。抱朴子曰。山中樹能語者非樹語也。其精名曰雲陽。山中夜見火光者。皆古枯木所作勿怪也。

The Bowu zhi says: Pregnant women must not eat ginger, as it causes children to have superfluous fingers. The Baopuzi says: When trees in the mountains can speak, it is not the trees speaking; their spirit is called Yunyang. When firelight is seen in the mountains at night, it is all produced by ancient withered trees; do not be alarmed at it.
