依阿毘曇論云。天壽量者。如人間五十歲。為四天王天一日一夜。即用此日月歲數。四天王天壽命五百歲。計人間日月九百萬歲。即是等活地獄一日一夜。如是日月歲數。等活地獄壽五百歲。計人間百歲為三十三天一日一夜。如是日月歲數。三十三天壽千歲。計人間三億六百萬歲。即是黑繩大地獄一日一夜。如是日月歲數黑繩地獄壽千歲。計人間二百歲。為焰摩天一日一夜。如是日月歲數焰摩天壽二千歲。計人間十四億四百萬歲。即是眾合大地獄一日一夜。如是日月歲數。眾合大地獄壽二千歲。計人間四百歲。為兜率陀天一日一夜。如是日月歲數。兜率陀天壽四千歲。計人間五十七億六百萬歲。即是呼地獄一日一夜。如是日月歲數呼地獄壽四千歲。計人間八百歲。為化樂天一日一夜。如是日月歲數。化樂天壽八千歲。計人間二百三十億歲。即是大呼地獄一日一夜。如是日月歲數大呼地獄壽八千歲。計人間一千六百歲。他化自在天一日一夜。如是日月歲數他化自在天壽一萬六千歲。計人間九百二十一億六百萬歲。即是熱大地獄一日一夜。如是日月歲數熱大地獄壽一萬六千歲。計眾熱大地獄壽其半劫。無擇大地獄壽一劫。畜生趣極長壽亦一劫。如地持論。龍餓鬼等極長壽五百歲。

Relying on what is stated in the Abhidharma treatises: regarding the lifespans of the devas, fifty human years constitute one day and one night for the Cāturmahārājakāyika devas. Using this count of days, months, and years, the lifespan of the Cāturmahārājakāyika devas is five hundred years. Calculated in human days, months, and years, this is nine million years, which is precisely one day and one night in the Saṃjīva Hell. With such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan in the Saṃjīva Hell is five hundred years. Calculating one hundred human years as one day and one night for the Trāyastriṃśa devas, with such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan of the Trāyastriṃśa devas is one thousand years. Calculated in human years, this is thirty-six million years, which is precisely one day and one night in the Kālasūtra Great Hell. With such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan in the Kālasūtra Hell is one thousand years. Calculating two hundred human years as one day and one night for the Yāma devas, with such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan of the Yāma devas is two thousand years. Calculated in human years, this is one hundred and forty-four million years, which is precisely one day and one night in the Saṃghāta Great Hell. With such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan in the Saṃghāta Great Hell is two thousand years. Calculating four hundred human years as one day and one night for the Tuṣita devas, with such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan of the Tuṣita devas is four thousand years. Calculated in human years, this is five hundred and seventy-six million years, which is precisely one day and one night in the Raurava Hell. With such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan in the Raurava Hell is four thousand years. Calculating eight hundred human years as one day and one night for the Nirmāṇarati devas, with such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan of the Nirmāṇarati devas is eight thousand years. Calculated in human years, this is two billion three hundred million years, which is precisely one day and one night in the Mahāraurava Hell. With such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan in the Mahāraurava Hell is eight thousand years. Calculating one thousand six hundred human years as one day and one night for the Paranirmitavaśavartin devas, with such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan of the Paranirmitavaśavartin devas is sixteen thousand years. Calculated in human years, this is nine billion two hundred and sixteen million years, which is precisely one day and one night in the Tapana Great Hell. With such a count of days, months, and years, the lifespan in the Tapana Great Hell is sixteen thousand years. The lifespan in the Pratāpana Great Hell is calculated as half a kalpa; the lifespan in the Avīci Great Hell is one kalpa. The maximum lifespan in the animal realm is also one kalpa. As stated in the Bodhisattvabhūmi-śāstra, the maximum lifespan of nāgas, pretas, and the like is five hundred years.
