The Han Shi waizhuan states: Confucius said, "Old leeks become wild onions; old reeds become rushes." The Soushen ji states: "The solitary mud-dauber wasp is called *guoluo*. Nowadays, people call it *yeweng*; it belongs to the thin-waisted kind. As a creature, it is male without female, neither mating nor giving birth. It constantly takes the young of mulberry silkworms and nurtures them, whereupon they all transform into its own offspring."
