Furthermore, the Sarvāstivāda-śāstra asks: 'Does the Buddha always shave his hair?' The answer says: 'It is not so. The Buddha's hair is always as it was seven days after shaving.' It asks again: 'When the Buddha first attained the Way, did he wear the kāṣāya?' The answer says: 'No one clad in white clothes attains Buddhahood; one must possess the thirty-two marks, leave home, wear the Dharma robes, be fully endowed with deportment, cast off afflictions, and have the knowledge of all aspects enter into one's body. “Kāṣāya” in the language of Qin means “dyed robe”; fetters, affection, and the like are also termed “dyed”. Those who wear this robe are not feared by beasts; therefore, hunters falsely wear this robe so that beasts see them from afar.'
