36.73

博物志曰。西域使獻香。漢制獻香不滿斤不得受。西使臨去乃發香器。如大豆者。試著宮門。香氣聞長安四面數十里中。經日乃歇。

The Bowu zhi says: 'An envoy from the Western Regions offered incense. According to Han regulations, if an incense offering was less than a jin, it could not be accepted. As the Western envoy was about to depart, he opened the incense container, and [took a piece] the size of a soybean to test it on the palace gate. The fragrant aroma was smelled for dozens of li in all four directions around Chang'an, and subsided only after an entire day.'
