In the first year of the Yonghui era of the Tang (650), Zhang Taixuan, a retired scholar of Kuaiji, paid homage and chanted at the monastery. The śramaṇa Zhiyue slept on adjoining beds with Taixuan alone. In the middle of the night, they heard the Diamond Prajñā being recited, completely lucid and distinct. The two listened quietly, their bodies and minds delighted and at ease. When the recitation ended, the sounds of snapping the fingers were as clear as if real. Looking around, there was no form; it was clearly known to be a divine grant.
