皇甫士安帝王世紀曰。元氣始萌謂之太初。三五歷紀曰。未有天地之時。混沌如雞子。溟涬始可濛鴻滋分。歲起攝提元氣啟肇。

Huangfu Shi'an's Diwang shiji says: 'When the Primordial Qi begins to sprout, it is called the Great Beginning (Taichu).' The Sanwu liji says: 'When heaven and earth did not yet exist, it was chaotic like a chicken's egg; only when the vast mist began to condense did the primordial expanse divide. The cycle began in the Sheti year, and the Primordial Qi made its initial opening.'
