The Erya says: "When the four qi are in harmony, it is called tongzheng; it is termed the 'auspicious wind' (Li Xun says: 'The auspicious wind is the wind of great peace'). A southerly wind is called the kai wind; an easterly wind is called the gu wind; a northerly wind is called the liang wind; a westerly wind is called the tai wind. A whirling wind is called a tui (Guo Pu's commentary says: 'A wind blowing from top to bottom'). A rising whirlwind is called a yan (it goes from bottom to top). Wind joined with fire is called dun (pronounced tun; dun means abundant and roaring). Wind that rises due to circumstances is a piao. Wind rising at sunrise is a bao. Wind raining down dust is a mai (pronounced mai). An overcast sky with wind is an yi." The Yi jilan tu says: "Descending yang becomes wind. When descending yang moves, it does not rustle the branches."
