"Second, if entering a village, walk observing the ground, looking forward the distance of one fathom (vyāma), keeping the Buddha's image in mind, with single-minded right mindfulness and faculties undispersed. Do not look at any utensils of necessity; do not converse with women; do not hold small children; do not repeatedly move the feet, nor move the arms and the seats; do not rub the head with the hands; do not repeatedly adjust the clothes; do not shake out the kāṣāya robe; do not rub the hands together; and do not snap the fingers. This is called the second method of subduing defilements.
