周京師大中興寺釋道安。姓姚氏。馮翊故城人。識寤玄理早附法門。神氣高朗挾操清遠。乃作遺誡九章以訓門人。其詞曰。

During the Zhou dynasty, Shi Dao'an of the Great Zhongxing Temple in the capital had the surname Yao and was a native of the old city of Fengyi. Awakening to the profound truth, he entered the Dharma gate early. His spiritual demeanor was lofty and clear, holding himself with pure detachment. He thereupon composed 'Nine Chapters of Bequeathed Admonitions' to instruct his disciples. The words said:
